Seton Hall Basketball: Freddie Wilson Pops for Pirates, Joins Karlis and Cosby in SHU's '11 Class

As expected, Freddie Wilson the 6-2 combo guard from Connecticut, has signed with the Pirates. Earlier today, his coach Ty Sullivan, announced Wilson's decision to come to South Orange. Wilson chose the Pirates over Fordham and Drexel. Wilson averaged 21 points, eight assists and five rebounds last season. Adam Zagoria was first to break the news:

"He's a combination guard," New York recruiting expert Tom Konchalski said. "Very high energy. Quick, very aggressive. Never takes a step backward. He attacks the basket and is always in attack mode. Not a pure point, not a pure shooter, but very high energy. He can be a very good press player."

What does this mean for Pirate fans?  After Kevin Willard & Co. decided to stop recruiting Elijah Carter, we wished and predicted that they would soon finalize the signing of Wilson. Freddie Wilson was a target of Associate Head Coach Shaheen Holloway's. Clearly, the former standout Pirate guard sees potential in Wilson.

Pirate fans should also be pleased that they have a guard who wants to play in Pirate blue. It was believed among basketball circles that Elijah Carter initially wanted to, but then decided to wait until the spring, probably to attract "bigger" programs. In comparison, Wilson has been chomping at the bit to come to South Orange for quite some time.

Look for Wilson to compete with the other guards that comprise Seton Hall's 2011 recruiting class: Aaron Cosby and Harald Karlis. These three guards, along with Jordan Theodore and a potential JUCO or spring signing will make up the Seton Hall back court next season.

The guards will have a veteran leader in Jordan Theodore, along with plenty of young talent. In my opinion, a JUCO guard will nicely balance out this collection of guards.

Extras:

Jarelle Reischel will make his college decision Wednesday night around 7PM. He'll be deciding between Seton Hall, Penn State and Rice. It seems like a 50/50 between Seton Hall and Penn State.

- The Pirates will leave for the Paradise Jam tournament on Wednesday and face 2-0 Alabama on Friday night.
