AOL Fanhouse: TCU to join Big East in 2012
Texas Christian University will hold a 2 PM EST press conference today to announce that it will join the Big East Conference in all sports beginning in the 2012-13 season. TCU's addition brings the total to nine football programs and 17 basketball programs in the Big East. Adding a 17th team in an already packed basketball conference is madness, but adding a team of TCU's caliber will certainly make the Big East more enticing in regards to football. A football invitation was also extended to Villanova in an attempt to bring the total football programs to an even 10. This is definitely a more important move to further the legitimacy of Big East football, but it holds major basketball relevance as well. TCU is currently part of the Mount West Conference, which is no slouch itself. The MWC boasts two Top 25 teams this year in BYU and San Diego St., as well as the always dangerous (but not ranked) UNLV. And baseball? The Horned Frogs will probably stack multiple conference championships with great ease. Smart move for TCU, but will this negatively or positively affect Big East basketball?
