Robert "Stix" Mitchell Arrested in Newark After Home Invasion
Well, Bobby's firing won't bring Robert Mitchell back to the Seton Hall program. The New York Times reports:
A Pirates player, Robert Mitchell, was arrested in Newark on Tuesday and charged with kidnapping, robbery, burglary and possession of a weapon, according to a law enforcement official in Essex County. Mitchell was accused along with another person of breaking into a home in South Orange, duct-taping eight people and stealing cash and personal items. The police have not identified the other person.
Adam Zagoria adds:
Mitchell allegedly entered a residence located on Irvington Avenue in South Orange on Monday, March 15, 2010 forcing occupants to move from various rooms into a common area where they forced to turn over their cash and personal items at gunpoint. There were eight occupants in the residences at the time. Various items including credit cards, cell phones, debit cards, driver's licenses, digital cameras and approximately $300 in cash were taken. Mitchell then fled the scene in a vehicle. The vehicle has been recovered.
What. A. Day.

The University must be going ballistic
These last 24 hours have been a nightmare for the University, the athletic department, alumni, and fans of the basketball team. Unbelievable.
PR is going to be busy
now i dont feel bad for him at all. obviously this happened after the fact of him getting kicked off the team, and it may not have happened otherwise, but there was obviously a serious character issue there already if something this big happened.
‘the time is now’ to completely rebuild our image….
wow
was this before or after he got dismissed from the team?
It's not me, It's you

It was the night after...

Very disappointing news
Unfortunately, when you recruit thugs and hoodlums, it always comes back to bite you. I hope we can find a credible and respected coach out there.

history
i wonder if he has a criminal record or not…
Alarming
Very disturbing news about Mitchell. Sorry for posting that Mitchell should be reinstated earlier today… I was not aware of the charges/arrest at the time. The NIT loss was nothing compared to this nightmare of a news story. SHU basketball needs to restore it’s integrity and the first step towards such a goal is to find the right coach with the same virtue. The Mitchell/gonzo story is being splashed on every major sporting news source out there. Unfortunately, something this severe hangs over a program like a cloud. Mitchell’s dismissal, Pope’s ejection, Gonzo’s termination and now Mitchell’s arrest all in one week… What a nightmare.

Not a problem SHU2005, reinstating him crossed over all of our minds.
Knowing him on a pure basketball court perspective, he was an easy kid to root for. Knowing about this issue outside of the basketball court, not so much. It’s just very sad, that he had a promising career in front of him (even after being kicked off the team), playing ball in Europe, but instead he’ll likely be in jail for the majority of his life.
Integrity and professionalism needs to be restored by the program and getting the right coach will do that.
