The Future

Let's be honest....this season is over.  With that being said, we need to look toward the future of Seton Hall basketball and what direction Kevin Willard needs to take us in.  I used to want Hazell to redshirt so we could have his scoring next year but recently I have reconsidered.  I want Hazell to come back simply so he is gone after the year.  I hope Robinson doesn't get his waiver, which I believe he won't, Keon needs to leave although he has been playing well recently, but I do want Pope to come back simply because we have no other option down low and he is by far the best of the three transfers.

The reason I want Hazell gone is because Seton Hall can not move forward as a program until all of the Bobby G era is gone.  I think Willard is the guy to take us to the next level but lets be honest, this program needs to be wiped clean.  The quick fix that Bobby G went after by acquiring all of the transfers (Keon, Robinson, Pope) has not worked and in the long run the program will be better when they are gone.  People say that after this year we would lose SO MUCH TALENT but come on if we had that much talent why do we suck???? The key to creating a good basketball program is more about the system rather than the players.  I believe Willard can develop a solid system based of defense and in time I believe the offensive scheme will come.  But it is not until after this system is in place that we can even worry about getting top recruits, because quite frankly top recruits are overrated.  Like you saw with Robinson and Keon especially, without a good system top recruits are a waste.  And to the point of Hazell being gone, if he comes back this will only slow down the process of us learning to score and move on without Hazell.  I would rather have Willard set up a good system than have a good scorer and thats what Hazell is.  With him on the court next year it further delays what needs to happen for Seton Hall Basketball.

This team does have a lot of upside though.  Fuquan Edwin, as you all know looks very very good, and Auda I believe can become a solid player, he does everything by the book and thats the type of players we need.  I'm excited to see what this new recruiting class does Cosby looks very solid and Wilson looks decent.  Karlis is the big mystery man.  My hope is that he can turn out like a Juan Fernandez of Temple.....that would be much needed.  WIllard needs to continue to bring in players that will match his style of basketball a good team offense and defense no more pass it to Hazell and hope that he hits a 3....for the program to move forward they have to wipe the slate clean.  Yes, it will take a few years but be patient, it's what we need.

Thoughts?????

Many valid points.

But I still want Jeremy to redshirt. He’s absolutely special to watch and being fans of Seton Hall Basketball, how often do we get to enjoy a player of that caliber doing his thing? Not very often. Furthermore, Jeremy actually DOES fit Kevin’s style of play. Instead of JRob/Pope/EP and Keon (until his recent hot streak) these are not the players that should be firing away from long-distance, it should be Jeremy, Fuquan and Jamel (as a specalist).

If JRob does get the waiver, Pope comes back and Jeremy returns next year, well, that may likely be a tournament team. Then again, the same group was supposed to produce a berth this year and we won’t even know (given Jeremy’s injury), but it didn’t look very likely. You are right, eventually, we will need to move on. But with the lack of success through one semester on the recruiting trail, I think if we made the tournament next year, it’d open the eyes that we expected to be opened this year.

I agree with everything you said. I guess there are both pros and cons to Jeremy redshirting or not. But I really do not want Jeff to come back unless Jeremy redshirts he is absolutely pathetic without him……he is trying far to hard to make up for the absence of Jeremy and him being on the court honestly hurts the team more than it helps sometimes.

About Jamel…where do I start….He is sooo bad honestly one of the worst D 1 athletes I’ve seen play. He can’t shoot I don’t care how many times people try and tell me he is a three point specialist because if this were even remotely true he would have found a way to make at least 1 three in the past few games. He can’t do anything with the ball on offense and he never moves without the ball he just hangs out by the three point line and throws up a three which he usually misses.

I appreciate your comment hopefully things work out because we all just want the team to succeed.
