"He is fearless, Seton Hall is getting a steal." - Brian Clayton
Only a few hours into the spring signing period, Seton Hall received their sixth commitment of the 2011 class in 6'9 PF Brandon Mobley of Savannah ,Georgia.
Despite rumors that Mobley would announce his decision on April 19th, the commitment was originally broken by Adam Zagoria earlier today. Mobley chose Seton Hall over Auburn, DePaul and Memphis (wasn't aware that Memphis was heavily involved).
Mobley is excited to play in the Big East and Seton Hall's small class sizes appeal to the big man:
"It was in the Big East," he said. "The school only has 5,000 kids so it’s not a very large class size. There’s good student-to-teacher contact."
Brandon Mobley brings a big body, athleticism and the ability to knock down an outside shot. I have been hearing that he is somewhere between the level of Anali Okoloji as a freshman and Ferrakahn Hall as a sophomore. His basketball IQ is supposed to be a bit higher than Okoloji and Hall.
Mobley averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks this season for St. John's Northwestern Military Academy (WI).
Assuming Mobley signs his NLOI (he will have it in by April 19th), Seton Hall has three open scholarships remaining since it is looking unlikely that Isaiah Hill will qualify. I expect the staff to fill two of those scholarships and save the third.
Bottom line: Mobley should replace Okoloji and then some. Hopefully Mobley will play in the paint as much as possible, as that is what Seton Hall needs. I'm not sure how likely that is to happen with this quote from Eric Bossi of Rivals.com:
"I've become more of a perimeter player," said Mobley. "But at 6-foot-9 and 215 I feel I can still handle the ball and pass. I try to be a Lamar Odom type player. I gained like 24 pounds this year at school and feel like I will only gain more and get better in college."
