Opening Line (UConn -2)

The Pirates welcome defending champion, the Connecticut Huskies, to The Rock this evening in hopes of their first victory over UConn in their last twelve contests. Friday night, Seton Hall took care of West Virginia for the first time in their last eight meetings, so what's another four? The Huskies sole loss of the season came at the hands of future Big East member, USF, at a neutral location. They've opened up Big East play with a marginal win at South Florida and a convincing victory at their alternate home arena, defeating St. John's on Saturday afternoon.

Tonight marks the third and final game that Jim Calhoun will sit out due to a recruiting violations punishment that was handed down by the NCAA. Of course, the Huskies responded by allowing the most sought after recruit of the 2011 class to, "walk-on," but that's neither here nor there. Former Pirate coach, George Blaney, will lead the Huskies. If you're attending the game, please don't forget to boo said recruit and freshman center, Andre Drummond on every touch for his (somewhat) famous, "Wait, Who's Herb Pope?"

As always, Let's Go Hall!

Nothing feels as good as spanking an overrated, overconfident team at home

And those guys at TheUconnBlog are full of excuses and it makes me laugh. I think it is safe to say that SHU is officially back. #shbb

Your statements seem contradictory to me. If UConn is overrated and overconfident, how is it that beating them is such a great accomplishment such that you feel confident about saying “SHU is officially back”?

You have a solid team this year, but come talk to me in March when you’ve actually done something before you start calling the defending champs “overrated”.

someone sounds upset?

That is a truly classic response btw. You just got spanked and your response is "come see me in…. ". This is what every teams fans do after they get embarassed on national television. Your wrong buddy, we did just do something and that was destroy your favorite team on national television.

Meh, I'm over it now

But I like how you completely overlook the first part of my comment.

Speaking of classic responses. Yours is right in line with little brother fan response of a team who hasn’t won anything in while. “[team that hasn’t won in a while] is back cause they spanked [team that has consistently won recently], but [team that wins consistently] sucks!”

Why don't you give your own player some advice?

Why doesn’t Drummond actually do something (other than beating up on high school kids) before calling out, one of, if not, the best, player in the conference?

Will do since we're bestest of friends

I agree with you that was silly of him to say and thought so at the time. Unfortunately, I never commented about it on SBNation, so I can’t back myself up that I thought so at the time as well.

As an aside, the “Who is Drummond?” chant by your crowd at the end was perfect timing as you stated in your own game recap (your welcome for the “unique visit”). I chuckled.

I didn’t understand the “over rated” chant though. Why say that? Wouldn’t you want to be able to say you beat a good team instead of an over rated team?

Haha,agreements all around!

As far as the overrated chant, you’re right, we certainly don’t want UConn to be thought of as, “overrated” on Selection Sunday. I think in the closing minutes, the fans just try to rifle off as many clever things that they can think of to try to, “hurt” the opposing team/fans. I read one UConn beat writer this morning that said they were also chanting, “back up the bus” and I believe something else about Calhoun. Whatever works, they did their part last night and this season as a whole (in comparison to other crowds we’ve had in recent memory), so they’re free to chant whatever they want (imo) as long as the situation calls for it.
