Citing poor traveling conditions in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the University has cancelled the men's basketball team's final exhibition game against FDU-Madison/Florham this Saturday. The University is refunding $15 to those who had purchased tickets to the exhibition, which was planned on being played in Walsh Gymnasium.
There aren't too many positives to take out of this besides preventing any additional injuries to starting players. Freddie Wilson and Tom Maayan can use all of the extra minutes that they can get at the point in preparation for UMKC on November 9th -- Aaron Cosby is unlikely to suit up. Maayan finished with 0 points, 5 assists and 3 turnovers in 25 minutes of actions against Wilmington while Wilson compiled 8 points, 8 assists and 2 turnovers in 27 minutes of time on the court. Iona-transfer Kyle Smyth also added 16 points and 8 assists from the back court.
On the recruiting trail, the Aquille Carr saga took yet another bizarre turn, this time 700 miles south to Florida. According to the Baltimore Sun, The 5-foot-6 point guard will spend his senior year of high school at Arlington Country Day (Fla.) instead of Patterson High School (Md.) -- Carr enrolled at the school yesterday and is scheduled to begin classes today.
While a change of scenery far from Baltimore is probably an effective way to keep him out of trouble, it remains to be seen if it will aid Aquille's academic question marks. Furthermore, we are unsure of how the Crimestopper will complete a 22-week domestic violence program at the House Of Ruth (located in Baltimore) in order to avoid criminal charges while schooling in the Sunshine State.
Arlington Country Day is the same school that was attended by former recruiting targets Ian Baker (Providence) and Carlos Morris (Chipola JC). The staff expressed preliminary interest in 2014 F Michael Gilmore over the summer, Gilmore currently attends Arlington Country Day.
