Seton Hall Basketball: 2012 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Field Announced
In December, we learned that Seton Hall, Ohio State, Rhode Island and Washington would be headlining the 2012 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. At that time, the other teams that would be joining the field were not determined.
Today in a press release, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced that Albany, Loyola (MD), Missouri-Kansas City and Norfolk State would make up the Springfield bracket, while the four headliners will participate in the Naismith bracket.
The tournament will be held at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut between November 16th-18th, however game times have yet to be determined. Additionally, each team will play in two on-campus games, Seton Hall will host theirs, but at The Rock, of course.
Kevin Willard was quoted on Seton Hall's invitation:
"This is a great opportunity for our program to participate in one of the marquee early season events on the national calendar. We're proud to be a part of a tournament that celebrates the tradition and history of our sport. We're excited to be a part of this impressive field and look forward to the competition next November."
I will be in attendance for the tournament and am looking forward to organizing an SOJ reader meet up and get together at the Casino for the weekend. Discounted hotel rooms will be available. Stay tuned!

Upcoming Games
Nothing to do with the post above – aside from the two winnable games at the end of the season, which game is more important, @Cincinnati or Georgetown? The Cincinnati game is huge because we would have another quality road win and knock Cincy behind us on the bubble. However, after UConn’s and West Virginia’s collapse, we have no marquee wins (top 25 teams) . We have a lot of quality wins (VCU, Mercer, @Dayton, WVU, UConn) but no great wins.
If we beat Cincy but lose to Georgetown that gets us to 10-8 in the conference, which usually is good enough for a bid, but we have no marquee wins and the bubble is packed – can’t we still be left out?
I just think that we need to beat Georgetown (and I think it’s a bad matchup for us) to be on the right side of the bubble? Agree or disagree?
One game at a time though – beat Cincy this Saturday.
Slight problems with your post.

If the Hall beats cincy and looses to gtown they are 8-8, not 10-8. To answer your question, the snub is always a possibilty. thats why the call it the snub.
IMO all 4 remaining games are of equal importance, taken one game at a time. A win at cincy puts SHU #7 in BET tournament, a better bracket. (#8 would play #9 (WVU) then #1)
A win vs. Gtown would be nice for the resume. Rutgers & Depaul have shown themselves to be tough teams at various times this year, and should never be taken lightly. I presume Rutgers will be looking to spoil senior night at the rock.
I was going with the assumption that we beat Rutgers and Depaul (not that those games should be taken lightly). I’m thinking about final conference record. And also getting the Hall to a point where we aren’t in a MUST WIN position in the big east tournament.
If the tournament started today – we would get a buy but would have to play the winner of WVU and Villanova – no easy task.
Saturday is all that matters right now...
The Hall needs to play on Saturday as though it is a sudden death winner take all game. Forget about Gtown and beyond and play one game at a time. This team is coming together and playing impressive basketball!
Momentum is going to allow us to win in Ohio on Saturday! Keep knocking down shots Hall! Go Pirates

Pretty much every game from this point forward..
…is a must win. And >nothing< can be “assumed” in this league. Rutgers is tough, Depaul @ home can be tough. These next 5 games (including game one of BET whoever the oppenant may be) must be taken one game at a time. Then let the chips fall where they may.
Many are just assuming we're going to win the last two games.
Nothing against RU should be assumed, ever. No matter time or place, those games are likely coming down to the wire.

Also, if we drop both Cinci and GTown, we're suddenly 7-9 with RU and DePaul to go.
What happens if we unravel against RU and DePaul are we guaranteed to get our feet set again to beat up on RU and DePaul? No. If we drop one of those, then we’re looking at 8-10. Lots of time left, plenty of games to play, like the poster above said, one at a time.

Our problem is not so much winning...
as it is being consistent. And being consistent means we’re competitive. And if we’re not consistent playing competitive bball we will not be chosen. The NCAA will pick the hot teams coming into the Dance. 1 loss and an early exit from he BE tourney and we may not get picked. Don’t forget the Dance operates on the competitive quality of the teams. Not on their win/loss records. That’s why teams scream, “We won 20, why aren’t we in!”
If we don't get in (9-9) in the Big East, we'd be in a great minority.
Something like 49 of 56 teams finishing 9-9 have made the dance.
If we finish 10-8 and don’t get in, we’d be in an even greater minority.

It may be a minority position but sad to say it happens.
It’s all about “juice”. Who’s hot and who’s not. TV rules. And I have to agree. Look at Iona, they’ve been hot all year. Great line up. High scoring. Disciplined play. Very well coached. They may not make it if they don’t win their title. Now compare them to an inconsistent team with a long losing stretch, trouble scoring, lots of foul trouble and below average competition in their league but with 20 wins? Who is the better bet to put on a show for a tv audience? Who has a better chance at being a Cinderella? I hope we make it. But there are no guarantees with 20 wins!
For now
lets hope they are only thinking about Cincy.
