As far as where he fits into Seton Hall's plan next year, I'm told he will get minutes immediately and there's a lot of excitement surrounding the new look backcourt consisting of point guard Sterling Gibbs and a, "big time player," in Wilbut.
Seton Hall landed a commitment from the 2013 class on Thursday evening as Jerron Wilbut, a 6'3 shooting guard, pledged his services to Kevin Willard and the Pirates next fall. Wilbut, who is doing a post-grad year at St. John's Northwest Military Academy, the same prep school that Seton Hall's Brandon Mobley attended, broke the news of his commitment on Twitter, with a series of tweets:
decisions.. decisions well looks like I'm gonna be a pirate this fall!#shunation— Jerron(@jwil23) January 18, 2013

Wilbut, a Shaheen Holloway recruit, is technically the second commitment the staff has received from the 2013 class, as he joins Aquille Carr, despite questions that surround Carr's eligibility status for 2013-14. One thing's for certain, there will be at least one new face in South Orange and Wilbut seems excited to lend his offense to a Pirates team he's been watching struggle to find rhythm this year. Following his announcement, he told Adam Zagoria:
"They’ve been recruiting me for a long time and from what I’ve seen they’re in need of a scorer," he told SNY.tv. "I can be coming in and that’s a good spot for me."
St. John's Military assistant Bryan Clayton also spoke with Zags, adding:
"He went to the game last night at Marquette [won by the Golden Eagles]. He saw an opportunity to play right away. They struggled to score. He felt a strong connection with [associate head coach] Shaheen [Holloway] and [assistant] Keith Pompey. He already visited. He’s been thinking about it. It just felt right."
Jerron Wilbut and his teammate, former Seton Hall target, Jevon Thomas, joined Austin Colbert in taking an official visit to Seton Hall for a weekend trip this past October. The trio took in Seton Hall's Groove Boston event and toured the Prudential Center, the venue that Wilbut will call home over the course of his collegiate career. Wilbut, who I'm told has developed a great relationship with Brandon Mobley, attended a pair of Pirates road games during conference play, January 2nd at DePaul and last night, at Marquette.
Coming out of high school (Downers Grove South, IL) in 2012, Wilbut was ranked 141st and the 33rd shooting guard according to Rivals. As far as where he fits into Seton Hall's plan next year, I'm told he will get minutes immediately and there's a lot of excitement surrounding the new look backcourt consisting of point guard Sterling Gibbs and a, "big time player," in Wilbut.
ESPN Recruiting watched Wilbut in late July and reported:
Wilbut is an athletic guard that can get to the rim and finish. he is a good mid range shot maker on the move and can hit the three when in his rhythm. He is a good perimeter rebounder and multiple position defender. His motor and attacking approach to the game makes this smooth guard difficult to defend.
