Seton Hall 55 South Florida 47: The Efficiency

NEWARK, NJ – The Seton Hall Pirates ended their four game skid with a much needed and solid win over South Florida at the Rock. A look at the efficiency of Pirates with ten or more minutes logged.

Using the NBA efficiency model, this metric adds points, rebounds, blocked shots, assists and steals while subtracting turnovers and all missed shot attempts (field goals as well as free throws).

Oliver was extremely efficient. In fact, on a per minutes basis his 12 minutes netted him a 1.000 efficiency per minute mark. Outstanding. For the record, Mobley in 21 minutes was at .810 while Edwin’s 35 minutes gave him an efficiency per minute of .514.

What we liked: The Seton Hall zone which forced South Florida to struggle offensively. Too little movement on offense and too many perimeter shots for the Bulls. South Florida rivaled the mercury outside the Rock shooting 3 of 19 (15.8%) from three point range.

What needs work: Cutting down on turnovers. Seton Hall committed 17. Given their 53 possessions, the Hall’s turnover rate was 32%. Much too high as 20% is the accepted cut off. In the end, their defense compensated for those ball handling miscues and ended the losing streak.
