Seton Hall power forward commit Angel Delgado has left the Huntington (W. Va.) Prep program, as first reported by Grant Traylor of the Herald-Dispatch. Delgado transferred to Huntington over the summer from Redemption Christian Academy in Troy, New York.
Huntington Prep's Angel Delgado is no longer with team due to academic reasons. He will transfer over Christmas break.— Grant Traylor (@GrantTraylor) December 21, 2013
The news comes two days after Angel Delgado hardly saw the court when Huntington Prep lost to Indianapolis Arsenal Tech on ESPN Thursday night. Twitter became active with scores of people confused as to why Delgado was not seeing any time, with some questioning if Angel was even on Huntington's team to begin with.
Head coach Rob Fulford has since confirmed the news with Adam Zagoria that Delgado has left the team due to a "combination of academics and playing time."
Seton Hall fans should be concerned going forward as the Pirates already had a thin frontcourt projected for the 2014-15 season due to the graduation of centers Gene Teague and Aaron Geramipoor in the spring. Angel Delgado, who signed a NLI with Seton Hall in the fall, is set to join forwards Rashed Anthony (2013-14 redshirt), Brandon Mobley, and Patrik Auda -- none of them true 'fives' -- on Seton Hall's roster next fall. Any unsolvable academic issues with the NCAA would further damage the Pirates' forward depth for next season.
It's unclear where Angel will play after Christmas break, but somewhere in New York City (or back at RCA in Troy, N.Y.) is a safe bet.
