Reports: Seton Hall center Kevin Johnson to transfer

Seton Hall currently has zero centers on their roster for 2014-15. - USA TODAY Sports

Update 7:26PM:

Kevin Johnson could wind up at Cal State-Northridge (Chris Pompey may join Reggie Theus' staff) or San Diego State, according to Zagsblog.com.

According to reports that originated from Piratecrew.com, Seton Hall center Kevin Johnson is set to transfer out of the program.

Johnson had been contemplating a transfer from Seton Hall as early as the 2011-12 season when he sat out due to academic reasons. Towards the end of his freshman campaign where Kevin averaged 2.5 ppg and 2.0 rpg over 7.9 mpg, he had been spotted on the sidelines displaying very poor body language on more than one occasion. Johnson was presumably upset with being moved behind center Aaron Geramipoor on the depth chart.

Johnson's departure leaves Seton Hall woefully thin at center for the 2014-15 season -- they are currently projected to have zero on their roster. With 7-foot Blaise Mbargorba's recent commitment to Boston University and 2014 forward Quadri Moore's desire to wait for bigger offers after the July evaluation period, Kevin Willard and his staff need to find front court solutions, and fast. Perhaps a more developed junior college post man combined with a high-potential 2014 is the best solution at this point.

2013 power forward Billy Magarity Jr. finished up his visits to Seton Hall, Boston College, and Temple last week -- I have not heard of a timetable for his decision yet.

It is believed that Johnson may follow departed Seton Hall assistant Chris Pompey out west (Johnson is from Southern California) -- perhaps to a mid or low-major. Seton Hall currently has a blank coaches page and have yet to hire a third recruiting assistant to join Fred Hill and Shaheen Holloway.
