The Morning After: Harvey 14 Dimes, Hall Too Much for Hawks, Audition

Seton Hall (6-0) defeated Hartford (2-6) last night at the Prudential Center, 89-56, in a game that saw Eugene Harvey record the most assists (14) for any Pirate since Andre Barrett had 13 in 2001.  For my initial post-game thoughts, click here.

Andy McCullough of The Star-Ledger recaps the action, focusing on the play of Eugene Harvey following his dissapointing performance against NJIT:
Harvey did so two days removed from a middling performance against NJIT, when he played 18 minutes. He lasted a team-high 31 minutes Thursday night, tallying 11 points, 14 assists and four steals.

"A team like this (Hartford), guys are really down, they don’t really want to play," Harvey said. "So it’s my job to get them up and get them going."
The Hartford Athletics summary of the game:
Seton Hall built 13-point leads on two separate occasions in the first half, but the Hawks cut into the deficit both times into single digits. Both times, though, the Pirates had a long-range answer and eventually built an 18-point advantage at intermission.
John Rowe, of NorthJersey.com, views last night's contest as an audition, giving the players further down the depth chart a chance to prove themselves worthy of cracking the rotation once Big East play begins:
"In games like this you can do that," said Gonzalez. "You can shuffle guys in and out. You can send messages to guys. You have leeway."
There were a few highlight reel plays as well. Jamel Jackson’s three-pointer that beat the first-half buzzer and gave Seton Hall a 42-24 lead was from beyond NBA range and Harvey’s no-look pass to Mitchell early in the second half got the Prudential Center crowd excited.
The Pirates will take on UMass Monday night at the Prudential Center, where they will attempt to start the season 7-0, with a victory.
