West Virginia Mountaineers (10-0) 90, Seton Hall Pirates (9-2) 84 Post-Game Thoughts:

Initial Post-Game Thoughts:

-Buzz kill. Jeremy Hazell hit a 25 footer to send this one into OT with 6 seconds remaining. It wouldn't be enough as WVU, aided by horrible FT and 3PT shooting was too tough for the Pirates in the extra period.

-Jeremy Hazell hit the game-tying 3PT from LONG distance, dropped 41 points, set a new career high, yet only connected on 4-of-19 3PT shooting.  Jeremy showed the biggest flaw in his game with repetitive chucking, yet backed it up when it counted, coming through with an unbelievably clutch shot.  Despite bad shot selection, Hazell was actually able to get to the line consistently and was one of the few Pirates to shoot decently from the stripe on 9-of-12 attempts.  He put this team on his shoulders and came through with the game on the line.  His shot selection obviously needs improvement, but the kid has heart, no question.

-Herb Pope, who has been one of the biggest play makers this season, struggled in his first Big East appearance.  His stat line was fine with 11PTS/11REBS and 5-of-9 from the floor, but 1-of-10 FTs impacted the outcome of this game.  Pope showed progress with 4-of-4 against Navy, however, he's got to continue practicing, I have faith he'll improve throughout the season.  They'll need him to.

-The Pirates shot 6-of-30 from 3PT and 16-of-33 from the stripe, yet pushed overtime before falling apart in the final 5 minutes.  How did this game go to overtime? How were they able to fight to the very end with those putrid numbers?  No excuses here, but had they shot DECENTLY from the stripe and 3PT distance, we most likely would have seen a different outcome.  WVU made the shots when it counted, shot 48% and 36% from the floor and 3PT respectively and proved they were the better team tonight, congratulations to them.   Again, how did the Pirates force overtime?

Some WVU stats:

Butler: 21PTS/6REB/6AST
Ebanks: 22PTS/17REB/7AST -- What a performance, visiting game-ball to Ebanks, the Pirates had absolutely no way of slowing him down.
Jones: 19PTS/14REB/2BLK.

Three monster games for the Mountaineers, again, surprising this game went to OT, considering.

-Gutsy performance, it was.  Down 10 with 56 seconds left, the Pirates looked to be finished.  Wrong.  Seton Hall proceeded to go on a 12-2 run to force overtime.  We all know the rest.  Congratulations to West Virginia.  With the entire country watching, they stepped up on the road, in overtime, to prove they were the superior team tonight.

Wow.  So close, yet so far. What a punch to the gut.

... More to come in tomorrow's Morning After post.
