According to Andrew Force of Bearcat Report, the Pirates have offered 2012 SF Ryan Taylor of Hargrave Military Academy. Coach Willard and Seton Hall secured Taylor's first official visit and it will reportedly take place between December 27th and 29th, although the Pirates are at Syracuse on the 28th.
Taylor originally committed to Louisville's class of 2011, but never enrolled and instead chose to undergo a prep year at Hargrave Military to improve his academics. If the school sounds familiar, it should. The staff has been out to to Hargrave in recent months to watch both Taylor and his teammate, Charles Buggs (eventual Minnesota commit). Taylor recently spoke with Jeff Borzello and didn't confirm that his grades were the issue at UL, instead he said:
"I can't really say [what happened], but we both wanted to go our separate ways," Taylor said at the National Prep Showcase. "No disrespect to Coach Pitino or their program, but we wanted to go our separate ways."
The offer is kind of surprising, considering the depth the Pirates have at the wing position (Edwin/Oliver/Karlis) and the pressing need they have for a point guard and power forward. Keep in mind, Seton Hall only has two scholarships available to hand out and that's assuming Raymon Austin doesn't show up in South Orange.
As far as talent level, Taylor seems to possess quite a bit of it. He's ranked a, '90' by ESPN who considered him the 41st SF in the class of 2011. Rivals lists him a tad better at 32nd and the 132nd overall recruit out of last year's class.
Currently, Taylor holds offers from Dayton, Cincinnati, Arkansas and Boston College. I imagine the official visit will actually take place in the days following the Syracuse game, possibly December 30th when Seton Hall takes on West Virginia in their conference home opener.
