The Pirates continue their road trip tonight, taking on the Longwood Lancers (of Farmville, Virginia) in their final non-conference game of the season. When the OOC schedule was released in the offseason, Seton Hall fans either drooled at, or mocked, the terry cloth slate that was assembled for their young team. Whichever side you were on, I think it's fair to say an 11-1 finish, which they can complete tonight, would have exceed the expectations of most. Personally, I thought 10-2 or even, 9-3, would have been more realistic. Saying that, it's also fair to say the play of seniors Herb Pope and Jordan Theodore have also exceeded our collective expectations.
Despite compiling double-digit wins prior to Christmas, the team still has glaring weaknesses. How will the team respond again when Pope is forced to sit with foul trouble? Presented with that situation at Dayton, the Pirates nearly gave the game away. When will this bench contribute? They've added 11 points in their last 104 minutes played as a bunch. Tonight, against Longwood is the last opportunity to see them in their respective expanded roles. When the bench has been handed the opportunity in previous spots they haven't excelled. There is no Vegas line on this game and for good reason, the Pirates should win by about 25 points. With a trip to the Carrier dome looming on Wednesday and a contest against one of the nation's poorest teams standing in the way, it'd be a fine time to get solid contributions out of a few reserves. As always, Let's Go Hall!
