Seton Hall Basketball: Pirates Welcomes Trio of Commitments

New, 8 comments

Seton Hall University officially announced the signing of Sean Grennan (Sea Girt, N.J.), Kevin Johnson (Woodland Hills, Ca.) and Brandon Mobley (Savannah, Ga.) this morning. The three commits will join already signed players Haralds Karlis (Riga, Latvia), Aaron Cosby (Louisville, Ky.) and Freddie Wilson (New Haven, Conn.) to form a six man 2011 class that may or may not be complete.

"I'm very pleased with the addition of these three talented players," Willard said.  "Brandon and Kevin will really help us inside and Sean solidifies our guard position.  We targeted guys who could come in and help us right away.  I'm really excited with the potential that all six of our newcomers will bring to this roster next year."

All three players had already decided to sign with Seton Hall in one form or another, this press release was just an official announcement by the university. Brandon Mobley signed his NLOI on April 19th, Kevin Johnson signed his sometime around April 15th (no official date here, but the signing was referenced in an interview) and Sean Grennan signed scholarship papers with Seton Hall since you are not allowed to sign a NLOI twice - Grennan previously signed one with Davidson University.

One interesting sentence from Seton Hall's press release was the last line of "All will suit up for Seton Hall this fall." Despite what I've seen on the internet today, I doubt this line is indirectly saying Kevin Johnson will be eligible for the 2011-12 season. He has yet to even start summer classes so I don't know how the university could say something that definitive at this point. I believe the line is just saying that all six players are part of the 2011 class.

Also, look for the 4th and final part of Tracking the Commitments to be released within the next week or two. I'm waiting to hear back from Brandon Mobley's coach at St. John's Northwest Military Academy before the 1800+ word piece is released. It will highlight the rest of Freddie Wilson and Aaron Cosby's seasons while introducing you to Brandon Mobley, Kevin Johnson and Sean Grennan.
