Seton Hall honing in on several targets as spring period approaches

New, 10 comments

As the regular signing period for the 2013 recruiting class quickly approaches, it begins on April 17th, Seton Hall is actively searching for someone to fill Aquille Carr's scholarship if he is unable to qualify. The Pirates currently have two scholarships to fill, one of which is expected to be occupied by Jerron Wilbut (SJNWMA, Wis.), a scoring guard who committed in January.

2015 point guard Isaiah Briscoe (St. Benedict's Prep, N.J.) and JuCo forwards Stephane Manga and A.J. West of Monroe College (N.Y.) all attended Seton Hall's upset of Villanova last week. Manga, a Princeton Day (Md.) graduate, the same school that Aquille Carr currently attends, has been offered by Seton Hall. Stephane was offered by Iona, Colorado State and James Madison while in high school. He averaged 15.2 PPG and 5.7 RPG for Monroe this past season.

A.J. West, originally a Duquesne commit out of high school who enrolled at Niagara for the fall of 2011 but never played, put up 10.9 PPG, 8.7 RPG, and 4.9 BPG this winter. However, West has recently expressed his desire to play basketball away from the East Coast.

Seton Hall has recently targeted a third JuCo player, Bobby Hunter of Santa Fe College (Gainesville, Fla.). Hunter, a point guard, has received strong interest from Murray State and Evansville while earning an offer from Iona. Hunter is currently leading the country in scoring with 25.5 PPG. Bobby also puts up 4.4 RPG and 3.5 APG.

Dwayne Morgan (St. Frances Academy, Md.), a Top 75 recruitng in the Class of 2014, attended the North Carolina - Maryland game yesterday. During the game, Josh Paunil of NRS was told that Morgan had trimmed Indiana and Seton Hall from his list. Morgan is down to UConn, Maryland, UNLV, Georgetown and Arizona. Not surprisingly, Morgan is favoring UNLV and Maryland.

News leaked last night that Seton Hall has offered 2013 forward Darryl Reynolds (Worcester Academy, Mass.). Reynolds has been hearing from Boston College, Temple and St. Bonaventure (offer) as recently as last month. Rhode Island and Fairfield have also offered. Reynolds is teammates with former recruiting target Rene Castro (Butler) at Worcester. Here is an interview he gave the NERR last month:

The staff is honing in on 6'7'' forward Rashard Kelly of Massanutten Military Academy (Va.). Kelly is currently a member of the Class of 2013 but is looking into reclassifying to 2014 after picking up recent interest. "Seton Hall is a lot more interested; they're showing a lot more love," Kelly told National Recruiting Spotlight. "I went to the Delaware game not too long ago and talked to the coaches. Right now, it's just where I have the best opportunity to play early on. I wouldn't say I have any favorites right now."

"I like Seton Hall and I'd say that's my main choice but I wouldn't say that's my favorite. Recently they have been the strongest pull but I couldn't really say who's been in first." Kelly told NRS that Boston College, Delaware, Seton Hall and Utah are the four schools recruiting him the hardest, all of which have offered. DePaul, Miami (Fla.) and Providence have also shown interest.

Rashard gave details about his plans going forward, "I'm looking to take an official visit to Seton Hall soon and maybe even Utah," Kelly said. "Utah has been recruiting me a lot and I'd take an official out there because it would be hard to get out there without an official. They've been showing interest and Seton Hall has been talking to my parents a lot and I'm trying to see how serious they are. Those visits would most likely be after the season so after March 6."

Massanutten Military Academy is the same school of 2013 Garland Owens, who chose Boston College over the Pirates last October.

Seton Hall will host 2013 F Lennard Freeman (Oak Hill, Va.) for an unofficial visit this weekend. Freeman has picked up offers from Rutgers, Seton Hall, and South Florida over the past month. North Carolina State has also increased their interest of late.

Lennard has said that he will likely reclassify to 2014 (he is playing up) but has not yet made the move. We have been told that if he gets blown away by a potential suitor, he will commit as a part of the Class of 2013.

2016 guard Temple Gibbs (Seton Hall Prep, N.J.) scored 27 points in a 63-57 loss to St. Peter's Prep (N.J.) in the Non-Public A final yesterday. Rutgers offered Temple after the game.

2014 targets Rashard Figures (Hackensack, N.J.) and Quadri Moore (Linden, N.J.) went head-to-head in the Group 4 semi-final yesterday. Moore and Linden prevailed, winning 83-78. Moore tallied 26 points while Figures scored 20 for Hackensack. Seton Hall is the only high major to offer Figures. Moore has received a handful of high major offers, including one from Seton Hall.

Abdul-Malik Abu (Kimball Union Academy, N.H.) was at the Providence - Seton Hall game on Tuesday. Both schools have offered the 2014 forward.
