Nigel Johnson enjoys Seton Hall visit, Aaron Cosby to Illinois and more

Following his official visit to South Orange, 2013 point guard Nigel Johnson (Riverdale Baptist, Md.) tweeted about his excitement to receive an offer and how much he loved the coaching staff and school.

Johnson, who decommitted from George Washington on March 28th, held offers from Lehigh, UNC-Greensboro, Bucknell, Holy Cross, American, Florida International, Northeastern and William & Mary at the time of his commitment. Johnson only visited Lehigh and George Washington before committing.

As a junior at Broad Run (Va.), Nigel averaged 29.5 PPG before moving to Riverdale Baptist for his senior season. Johnson outscored former Seton Hall commit Aquille Carr in the CBL Championship this February. Here is a highlight video of the game. No. 32 (Chinanu Onuaku) on Riverdale Baptist is also a Seton Hall target.

There is a rumor that a current player will transfer out of the program as a result of the recent coaching change in South Orange. This comes on top of the fact that Tom Maayan may have to fulfill his military commitment to Israel. Two additional departures would leave a total of five open scholarships for the Class of 2013.

Former Seton Hall combo guard Aaron Cosby committed to Illinois on Friday night. Illinois head coach John Groce had offered Cosby a scholarship out of high school when Groce coached at Ohio. This is a prime example of why not to burn bridges with recruits after they commit elsewhere.

  • 2013 shooting guard Jon Severe said he wants to visit Wake Forest and Pittsburgh before he commits. Severe plans to announce his decision by May 22nd. Wake Forest head coach Jeff Bzdelik has an in-home visit with Severe today.

  • Northwestern head coach Chris Collins has an in-home visit with Jaren Sina today. Indiana announced on Friday that guard Remy Abell is transferring from the program. Abell's departure frees up potential minutes for Jaren Sina, if he were to commit. Jaren would have to compete with Indiana returnee guards Yogi Ferrell and Maurice Creek. Indiana already has a deadly outside shooter as a part of their 2013 class in wing Collin Hartman.
