According to News-Press.com, former Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez and current Seton Hall assistant Chris Pompey have inquired about the Florida Gulf Coast coaching vacancy.
Nicknamed "Dunk City USA" by Troy Machir on NBC's CBT Twitter account, Florida Gulf Coast did the unthinkable for a 15-seed by beating Georgetown and then 7-seed San Diego State to make in to the Sweet 16. The Eagles fell to in-state opponent Florida in the round of 16. Their performance in the N.C.A.A. Tournament inspired this video and this captivating article, titled 'One night in Dunk City'.
Shortly after getting knocked out of the Dance, FGCU head coach Andy Enfield (the one with the model wife) was hired by USC for somewhere around $1 million/year. Now, Bobby Gonzalez (referred to as Robert in the article) and Chris Pompey join a list of candidates that includes Bobby Lutz (Charlotte, now NC State), Eric Snow (NBA, now assistant at SMU under Larry Brown), and Eric Musselman (ton of NBA experience, assistant at Arizona State), among others.
Chris Pompey was recently pegged at No. 28 on Clark Francis' list of Top 50 assistant coaches.
Florida Gulf Coast athletic director Ken Kavanagh says a replacement for Andy Enfield may take two to four more weeks.
