Seton Hall to host 2015 forward Myles Carter on official visit

New, 3 comments

In search of the first member of their 2015 recruiting class, the Seton Hall coaching staff will host forward Myles Carter on an unofficial visit from Thursday to Saturday of next week.

UPDATE (10/30, 10AM): Carter has rescheduled his visit to next weekend (Nov. 8-9) so that he will be able to attend the exhibition against Caldwell. November 9th is the last live recruiting day before a four-day dead period that runs into the early signing period of Nov. 12-19.

Carter is a 6-foot-9, 225-pound power forward that can also play at the 'five' or 'three'. Like most young forwards, his strength is on the glass and defensive end, though he told me he likes to get out in the open court to use his athleticism to his advantage. Rivals, 247Sports.com (195th), and ESPN have all rated Carter as a 3-star prospect. IllinoisHoopScout.com has Myles at 11th in the state, which is in high-major territory.

For a sample of that athletic ability, here's a clip of him dunking from just inside the free throw line last December:

Myles plays for former long-time St. Raymond (N.Y.) head coach Gary DeCesare at St. Rita (Ill.) High School in Chicago. Also an assistant at DePaul under Jerry Wainwright, DeCesare may be the recruiting connection here as Seton Hall assistant and former Abraham Lincoln (N.Y.) head coach Tiny Morton would surely have been familiar with DeCesare.

Carter holds offers from Memphis, DePaul, Xavier, Providence, Bradley, VCU, SIU-Edwardsville, and Illinois-Chicago (UIC), most of which came in last summer. Myles told me that Memphis, DePaul, VCU, SIU-E, and UIC are still actively recruiting him while he has picked up a lot of recent interest from Saint Louis and Seton Hall, who have not offered yet.

As far as visits go, Carter has already seen DePaul and UIC earlier this fall, both of which are extremely local to St. Rita. After visiting Seton Hall next weekend, he's looking to set up trips to Saint Louis, Memphis, and SIU-Edwardsville, though no dates have been scheduled yet.
