This out of left field: the lone Pirate from Seton Hall's graduated senior class not playing professional basketball prior to today has signed with the defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs. Fu' joins Paterson Catholic teammate and friend Kyle Anderson on the Spurs' roster. Edwin briefly worked out for the Spurs a month ago.
Edwin averaged 14.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 2.7 spg for Seton Hall in his final season and finished 3rd in the country in steal percentage. Fuquan finished his career at Seton Hall as their all-time leading theft-guy with 295. Edwin was also named the Big East Defensive Player of the Year for the 2013-14 season.
Before signing with San Antonio, Edwin played very briefly with the Oklahoma City Thunder during the NBA's summer league. After not making any NBA rosters, Fuquan had signed on with Pistoia Basket of Italy's Serie A before picking up an injury that subsequently led to the mutual termination of his contract prior to playing any games.
This is obviously wonderful news for Fuquan as well as Seton Hall. Fu' joins the New York Knicks' Samuel Dalembert as the second Pirate currently in the NBA, sort of.
Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but it looks like Edwin is bound to be assigned to the Spurs' D-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs. San Antonio is currently three players over the regular season limit and therefore would have to shift three guys off their roster before their first regular season game on Tuesday.
