Nathan Ekwu cuts Seton Hall from his list

A week after 2014 forward Nathan Ekwu (Cardinal Hayes, N.Y.) visited Seton Hall's campus, was offered by Kevin Willard, and desired to set up an official visit to the Big East school, Ekwu has trimmed the Pirates from his list.

The premium article states that Ekwu is down to Davidson and Fordham and will decide next week. Davidson head coach Bob McKillop flew in from North Carolina to see Ekwu on Thursday and the senior forward from Nigeria will visit Fordham this weekend as scheduled.

Ekwu's quick about-face triggers several possible scenarios. 1) Seton Hall had to rescind their offered scholarship shortly after it was extended to Ekwu. 2) He decided against Seton Hall due to academic desires, both Davidson and Fordham have academics as a strength. 3) Ekwu simply eliminated the Pirates shortly after saying he wanted to set up an official visit (reporting wasn't 100% accurate, etc.)

Unless we have another Blaise Mbargorba situation, I don't see any basketball related reasons why Ekwu would suddenly cut Seton Hall for two decent mid-major schools. Perhaps I am underestimating Bob McKillop and Tom Pecora's recruiting ability. Perhaps the coaching staff had tabbed Ekwu as a backup target and told him this and not wanting to wait for Seton Hall, he eliminated the school.
