Graduating senior wing Fuquan Edwin will play in the 2014 Portsmouth Invitational. The Pirates' all-time leading steals man and 2013-14 Big East Defensive Player of the Year will play alongside former La Salle player Aaric Murray, UMass' Chaz Williams, and Jordair Jett of Saint Louis at the eight team senior showcase event that takes play April 16-19 in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Former Pirates Jeremy Hazell (2011), Herb Pope (2012), and Jordan Theodore (2012) have been invited to the Invitational in recent years. Hazell wound up dropping out of the event at the last minute due to his wrist not being 100-percent (some claim he blew off the event without notifying anyone) while Theodore was named to the 2012 All-Tournament team.
Fuquan Edwin is currently ranked 49th in NBADraft.net's top-100 prospect rankings and 79th in DraftExpress.com's rankings. Likely a late second round prospect at best, Edwin is aiming to use the Portsmouth Invitational to raise his stock in order to get drafted or boost his exposure in order to make a summer league team or receive an overseas contract if he goes undrafted. The Invitational, which has representatives from all 30 NBA franchises at its event, may be particularly important to Fuquan since he was playing the last couple games of his season with a bruised thumb.
We will update on Fu's progress in the comment section.
